Edition 1/3, 11X11
My work explores a visual representation of being dyslexic.
The words that are written are some personal challenges I have being dyslexic. The difficulty with spelling, reading, writing, and my lefts and rights. Some of these words are spelled incorrectly, flipped upside down, and written backwards.
The other side are gears. This symbolizes my brain. Not all brains build a flowing reading circuit easily. This is the case with dyslexia. Dyslexia is a different brain organization, one in which the brains’s reading circuit has been disrupted or re-routed in at least one way, and sometimes in two or three ways. Each dyslexic brain is unique.
Using a hand woven technique creates blank spaces for viewers to fill in the gaps. With this visual I am “disrupting” the viewers brain of what is missing.
